F5J -15 (formula fifteen)

New F5J "open" rules for Private League and RIVA-net competitions

(15-th February 2006 - I hope, all mistake in old text are improved now)

These modifications have been adopted by the old F5J-F15 rules from year 2005 and will be used during year 2006 for F5J-15 "man o man" competitions (Private League Piestany)* and RIVA-net competitions F5J-15*.
*/ look calendar of F5 competitions for year 2006

Basic principle of the rules:

1 - Working time (window for climb and gliding) 15 minutes
2 - Motor window 5 minutes.
3 - Any type of motor allowed
4 - No limit on motor run time into the motor window
5 - No limit on number and type of cells, all types (NiCd, NiMH, LiIon, LiPol...) are allowed ,
6 - Flying task - as long as possible flying time in the working time*
7 - Bonus for precision landing**
8 - Penalty for duration of motor runing time in dependence on "imput tension handicap"

*/ one point per second of gliding
**/ 30 points for landing into circle with diameter 15 feet, 15 points into circle with diameter 30 feet

For scoring we measure:

F - flying time of the model from start to landing
M - motor running time
L - distance of the model from landing point

For scoring we must find out:

V = total voltage of power pack (count of cells multiplyed to nominal voltage of cell)
C = capacity of power pack (nominal capacity of cells)

... then we can calculate "pack content"
( p = pack content = C x V )
... u
se "standard pack content" (
P = arranged typical value)*
... and calculate handicap factor (
H = handicap factor = p/P )

* If
we have agreed as "typical 7 cells pack" with NiXX (8,4V) with 1,6-2,0 Ah capacity (1,8 on average), then value of will be P= 8,4x 1,8 = 15,12 Wh , or - simplified P = 15 Wh . Similar "typical 10 cells pack" can have 1,25 Ah capacity (e.g. Sanyo 1250). This pack will have P = 12 x 1,25 = 15 Wh.

For interpretation of all data we can use following formula:

R = F + L - M x H

R = result in round (points)

F
= flying time from start to landing (second=point)
L = poits for precise landing (points)
M = motor running time (second=point)
H =
handicap factor

or

R = F + L- M x C x V/15

For interpretation of all data you can use simple EXCEL computing table:
(formula for Excel column G is following)

column G = column C +
column D - column B x column E x column F/15

(excel column A)
(excel col. B)
(excel col. C)
(excel col. D)
(excel col. E)
(excel col. F)
(excel col. G)
