* Model eXtreme BOLERO is built
of a material from Bolero-basic set which is made
by the Dubnica model club for its members and other
buyers. A detailed description of the Basic set
can be found here – http://www.rivamodels.sk/PPP/workshop/workshop05.html
* The set is initially intended
for the construction of a model with wingspan of
2300 mm a it contains all the laser-cut wing ribs,
carbon tubes needed for this wing, composite fuselage
and many details which are not common in your workshops.
The Bolero-basic set does not contain balsa sheets
for the D-box , balsa leading edge, spruce beam,
etc. which everybody can get on their own.
* The model of this 2300mm
wingspan version is intended to compete mainly in
the F5J "outrunner class". The pilots
who have tried this model agree that by enlarging
the wingspan the model may be suitable for the height
limited (FXJ) contests. Similar reactions have been
noticed with the Salsa gliders line.
* To try out these opinions
I have decided to build a chain of experimental
models called the eXtreme line. I have already built
a Salsa 135 ( with the wingspan enlarged from 2980
mm to 3400 mm ) but much more important in this
„line“ is going to be BOLERO. The wingspan of about
3000 mm is acceptable for the FXJ category and by
using lighter power units this model could have
interesting flight characteristics.
* This testing model has 6
pairs of ribs added into the root of the wing and
it has a slightly enlarged area of its vertical
tail area (compared to the original model from the
basic set). The wing is divided in the middle and
the D-box is also on the "winglets ".
The original fuselage from the Basic set is prolonged
(the fuse in the front is 50mm longer) to counterbalance
a longer tail boom with the classic "cross"
configuration and to have the center of gravity
in the appropriate position. It has 6 controlled
surfaces - ( rudder, elevator, ailerons, flaps).
*The power unit consists of
classical metallic dual-ratio gearbox 5,8:1 working
with S-NEU 1110/1.5D and 2 cells Li-Ion 1300 mAh
or Li-Pol 2200 mAh battery which should be able
to be discharged by 35 – 50 Amps. The power unit
input is designed to enable Bolero eXtreme to compete
in 200W/kg and FXJ categories. By exchanging the
folding propellers you can set you motor input between
approx. 220 W ( for 200W/kg) and 380W (for FXJ contests).
* The model is expected
to be finished by the end of April and I hope it
will be used not only at the International FXJ Meeting
in Holic (Slovakia) 2010 (July 9th) but also at
the International UK FXJ contests at Spitalgate
(August 2010).
