NEW CONCEPT of F5J-open rules for year 2007

Thank you to Bruce Edwards from U.K. for help with English terminology and other lanquage problems.

Basic principles >>>

1- Any Electric Powered model allowed (FAI limits apply)
2- Any Batter allowed. No limit on number, size or type of cells (NiCd, NiMH, LiIon, LiPol, etc.)
3 - Any Electric Motor type or size allowed
4 - Unlimited motor run. But all motor run time incurs a penalty
5 - Only one motor run per flight permitted
6 - Working time 10 minutes (600 seconds = 600 points)
7 - Flying task - As long as possible in the working time
8 - Bonus for precision landing (As in F3J)

Processing: we measure and note >>>

- propeller diameter and pitch
- RPM (full throttle)
- weight of the model

Flight: we record >>>
- total flying time from launch to landing (value "F")
- motor running time (value"M")
- distance of the model from landing point (value "L")

Method for "penalty factor" (Pf) determination:

We use the table RPM versus W out for Aeronaut CAM carbon propellers from www.aero-naut.de

We measured the RPM and size of the propeller and assign these values to get W-out from the graph
We recorded the weight of the model.

We can now compute the value of PENALTY factor:

Pf = 0,005 * Watt out/Weight (kg)

It can be seen that the Pf=1 for a model which has 200W/1 kg (power out / weight)

For the round score we use following formula:

R = F + L - M*Pf

R = result in round (points)
F = flying time from start to landing (seconds=points)
L = landing bonus points
M = motor running time (1second= 1 point)
Pf
= penalty factor

EXAMPLE 1 :

I have Sensor-plus model, 2000 mm wingspann, S400 motor, gear 3:1, 8 cells GP1100.....
Propeller Aeronaut 11/8", RPM=5500/min, total weight of the model is 0,780 kg,
Power out from RPM versus W-out is 70 W

Penalty factor for this case will be: Pf= 0,005 x 70/0,780 = 0,449

I use motor for 40 seconds
I have total flying time 8 minutes and 50 seconds (530 points)
Landing - distance from LP no more than 2 m (95 points)

My result is
R= 530 + 95 - (40 x 0,449) = 530 + 95 - 18 = 625 - 18 = 607 points

EXAMPLE 2 :

I have TANGO model, 2600 mm wingspann, AXI 2826 motor, 3S LiPol 2100 mAh
Propeller Aeronaut 13/8", RPM= 7900/min, total weight of the model is 1,350 kg
Power out from RPM versus W-out is 380 W

Penalty factor for this case will be: Pf= 0,005 x 380/1,350 = 1,407

I use motor for 25 seconds
I have total flying time 9 minutes and 15 seconds (555 points)
Landing - distance from LP no more than 5 m (80 points)

My result is
R= 555 + 80 - (25 x 1,407) = 555+ 80- 35 = 635 - 35 = 600 points
